Train Brain

Lincoln loves trains. Lincoln loves to build. As a result, we’ve had a lot of homemade trains around these parts recently.

Lincoln will build a train out of whatever material is available at that moment. Here’s one built out of pieces of our marble run with a cup for a smoke stack:

This one is made of the pieces of a bingo game:

And these are, obviously, crayons.

This one, made of Lincoln Logs, has the added feature of a bonnet smoke stack.

More then anything though, of course, Lincoln builds trains out of Legos and Duplos. They must always have a cow catcher (we’ve been calling it a cattle guard, but now we’re worried that may be incorrect) because that is his favorite part of a train.

(This last one has smoke coming out of the smoke stack as an added bonus.)

Lincoln knows now that I take pictures of his trains so he runs and finds me whenever he finishes one.

A Very Merry Un-Birthday

Conan was six months old yesterday! To celebrate we headed to the national zoo and had a very successful day. We’ve always taken the metro to the zoo before and it’s not really the most pleasant experience. The metro stop isn’t all that close and it’s at the bottom of a hill. Yesterday, we cruised right up to the entrance, found a parking spot about 10 feet away and I parallel parked expertly. We’re driving from now on. We could only park on the street for two hours, but honestly, I think two hours at the zoo is about our limit anyway. It rained yesterday morning so we got to see a lot of animals out and about.

The sloth bear was pacing right in front of the glass. Lincoln didn’t want to get too close, just in case.

One panda was eating his weight in bamboo and another was sleeping like a rock. They reminded me of Conan about 5 and a half months ago.

This handsome guy was so good about riding in the stroller and providing all the smiles I required.

We got to see an orangutan go across the “O Line.” It. was. so. cool.

Our last stop was the great cats. One lion and one tiger were both roaring like crazy.

And I asked a stranger to take a picture of me and my boys since I never get to be in pictures. I sure love getting to do all this fun stuff with them. :)

Ocean City

We spent Saturday battling traffic on the way to in Ocean City, MD for a beach day with some friends. It was a lovely day. Once we escaped our traffic nightmare.

We may not all be looking/smiling, but here’s a rare picture of all four of us. Hooray!

This was Conan’s first time seeing the ocean. He wasn’t very impressed and demanded that he be immediately removed from the water. He and I spent most of the rest of the day in the shade of the tent.

In the past Lincoln hasn’t been too enamored with the ocean either. He’s never been a huge fan of sand or waves but, after a timid start, he completely came around. We could not keep that boy out of the ocean. We brought him back up to the tent a couple of times and he would immediately ask to go back to the water. Jonathan loves the ocean, so he was happy to oblige.
